that communication from Fire Chief transmitting recommendation of award of contract
in the amount of $49,679.00 to Cedar Valley Freightliner of Waterloo, Iowa for the
ambulance chassis; award of contract in the amount of $60,580.00 to Emergency
Vehicle Sales & Services of Alexander, Iowa for the modular ambulance; award of
contract in the amount of $5,966.79 to Emergency Medical Products of Des Moines,
Iowa for the loose equipment, for a total cost of $116,225.70 in conjunction with
the purchase of an Ambulance Chassis, Modular Ambulance and Loose Equipment, be
received, placed on file and "Resolution approving said award of contract", be
adopted.
Prior to a vote on the above motion, the following comments were heard.
Councilperson Anders questioned the difference in the bid price quoted in the June
9, 1997 council minutes and the award of contract bid prices recommended at
tonight's meeting.
Fire Chief Frank Magsamen will investigate the figures and report back to
Councilperson Anders.
Councilperson Collier questioned why the Fire Chief did not accept the lowest bidder
on the ambulance chassis and the loose equipment bid.
Fire Chief Frank Magsamen responded that his department recommended to accept the
bid from Cedar Valley Freightliner of Waterloo, Iowa in the amount of $49.679.00 for
the ambulance chassis due to the fact that they are a local company, and their bid
was less than 1 percent over the lowest bid in the amount of $49,230.00 from Truck
Country of Cedar Rapids.
He recommended the award of the bid from Emergency Medical Products of Des Moines,
Iowa in the amount of $5,966.79 for the loose equipment over the low bid in the
amount of $5,093.60 from Pro Med of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa because Pro Med's bid did not
include all equipment requested. Equal pricing based on Emergency Medical Products
for the additional items not bid by Pro Med would total $918.30.
Following discussion a vote was taken on the above motion with the following result.
