ORAL PRESENTATIONS
107947 - Tom Hall, Franklin St, asked if the Mayor thought that the city could use another
taxicab service. Mr. Hall is unhappy with the service of a taxicab company. Mayor
Rooff indicated that there should be no problem with another service in town.
P. J. Stoppleworth, director of marketing for Club Shagnasty's, is spearheading the
efforts to retain MTV on Waterloo cable. Over two thousand signatures were obtained
from people wanting their MTV back. MTV is entertaining television and bridges the
gap in distance by providing information on trends across the country.
Collier now present at 7:20 p.m.
Mr. Stoppleworth continued by stating that while he doesn't subscribe to cable
services he was recently injured and watched a large amount of MTV while
incapacitated. He saw value in the programming that MTV provides. Stoppleworth
also contacted managers of local music stores and they indicated that they would
feel the loss of MTV in their business volume. He quoted Darrell Wenzel of TCI as
saying it was a business decision. Stoppleworth stated that TCI is more concerned
with their bottom line by obtaining the fee from new stations than with customer
satisfaction.
