112039 - Councilperson Bill Gronen introduced Tina Blackman and Luke Turner, students
from East High School, and Jessi Gunderson and Jon Fuller, students from West
High School.
Councilperson Scott Jordan stated that he would like to submit a petition
requesting that signs at the intersection of the 1500 and 1600 blocks of
Forest Avenue and the 400 and 500 blocks of Oregon Street be changed from
yield signs on Forest Avenue to stop signs on Oregon Street, or a four-way
stop to help slow high speed traffic on Oregon Street.
Mayor Pro Tem Jerry Anders stated that the petition will be forwarded to Mike
Mrzlak, Superintendent of Traffic Operations, for his review.

Mayor Pro Tem Jerry Anders read a proclamation declaring Census 2000 a
priority and encouraging the community to place an emphasis on partnering
with the United States Census Bureau in achieving an accurate and complete
count.
Councilperson Barb Kirzek read a proclamation encouraging the support of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and showing support through the
purchase of Buddy Poppies on May 7-8, 1999.
Police Chief Bernal Koehrsen presented certificates to Officer David Taylor,
Shelly Smith and Linda Myers from the Department of Justice for service to
crime victims.
Mayor Pro Tem Jerry Anders accepted a check in the amount of $750.00 from
Jean Harrenstein of First Star Bank.

Councilperson Gronen stated that he agrees with Councilperson Getty.
Councilperson Gronen stated that he can see the decks being a depository for
old couches and barbecue grills. Councilperson Gronen stated that he
supports the Planning, Programming and Zoning Commission's efforts and
community relationship.
Councilperson Anders stated that the Planning, Programming and Zoning
Commission recommended the proposed ordinance change at the request of city
staff who have gotten calls from citizens wanting to put decks on the front
of their homes. Councilperson Anders stated that if the proposed ordinance
would include good rules, the change would be a good thing for the city.
