Invocation by: Mayor Bernard L. McKinley Pledge of Allegiance: Don Temeyer 91377 - Moved by Angel, seconded by Seeber that the Agenda, as proposed, for the Regular Session of December 21, 1987, at 7:00 p.m., be accepted and approved. Motion carried. 91378 - Moved by Angel, seconded by Seeber that the Minutes of the Regular Session held on December 14, 1987, at 7:00 p.m., be approved. Motion carried. ADJOURNED HEARING 91379 - ADJOURNED HEARING --This being the time and place of adjourned hearing on changing of name of Cleveland Street to Fletcher Avenue and extend Fletcher Avenue address numbering system north of University Avenue, the Mayor called for written and oral objections. Councilperson Budak reported that he had visited many of the businesses on Fletcher Avenue north of Falls Avenue. Most of the business owners had very few concerns with the name change. None of those he spoke with were against the change, with approximately 65 to 70 percent of the owners of the businesses in favor. He also indicated that the Council may consider the name change effective in a year or so from now. Dick Clabby owner/operator of Clabby's Catering Service, 1657 Falls Avenue, spoke in support of the request. He stated that the Fletcher Avenue name is one that is easily identified with such activities as My Waterloo Days, swim races, the Waterloo Open, and camping. Said name change would be a convenience of identification for said events. He also reported that he would suggest the name change to become effective at the time that the Cleveland Street Reconstruction Project is completed, and that the City should not be in a hurry to make the change. He stated that of the twelve businesses located along Cleveland Street, five are owner occupied and seven are rental units. Chuck Slater, 820 Cleveland Street, spoke in support of the request. Viola Klebs, 1105 Cleveland Avenue, indicated that she had spoken to additional homeowners in the area who had signed the petition against said name change. Councilperson Angel inquired whether the Council could set a name change effective at a future date, such as July, 1989. Bob Stevenson, City Planner, reported that the Planning, Programming and Zoning Commission had recommended that the change become effective July, 1989. Councilperson Seeber indicated that he had been opposed to the request on December 7; however, since that time the conversations on making the name change at a future date has gained his support. Extending the effective date of the name change will allow businesses to make changes in the telephone book, as well as letterhead and stationary.
